Look for more Technical Fouls this year in NBA

NBA referees are now allowed to get lip-happy with their whistles by getting league permission to call more technical fouls for the following conditions:

1. Players making aggressive gestures, (e.g. air punches) anywhere on the court.

2. Demonstrative disagreement, (e.g. player incredulously raises hands or slaps his body to demonstrate how he was fouled.)

3. Player makes a beeline directly to referee to complain about a call/non-call.

4. Too many inquiries regarding a call, even in civilized manner.

Put it this way…NBA referees are going to take less BS this year!

But does this pave the way for more video replay decisions down the road?

What’s up with Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies?

Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies have struggled the first few games this season.

Washington, 1 win, 2 losses, are coming off a thrashing by the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 56-21.  Jake was 4 for 20 for 71 yards and 2 interceptions.  Not taking anything away from the ‘Huskers defense, but 4 for 20!

Jake needs to turn things up, help Washington in their upcoming game against USC and give the NFL scouts something to talk about.

Miguel Tejada hits #300 as Padres reclaim 1st

Miguel Tejada hit his 300th career home run leading the San Diego Padres past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3 to 1 and pushing past the San Francisco Giants into first place in the NL West.

Three teams are battling for playoff position in what is leading up to an exciting finish to the regular season.  Every game counts now as the Padres, Giants and Colorado Rockies are all in the race with Colorado dropping 3 back and Frisco one-half back.

Seems it been awhile since we had a 3-team race to finish…stay tuned.

Jurgen Klinsmann will not coach US National Soccer Team

Jurgen Klinsmann ended his talks over possibly becoming coach for the US National Soccer team.

Citing that US Soccer Federation would not put down in writing what was mutually agreed upon verbally.  Conversations regarding control and who would have the last say did not pan out to the way Klinsmann had expected.

The US rehired coach Bob Bradley for another 4 years.

Peyton 2, Eli Manning 0; Colts crush Giants 38-14

Battle of the Football QB brothers goes to Peyton Manning once again as his Indianapolis Colts beat the New York Giants 38-14 in Indianapolis.

Peyton, the older of the two, completed 20 of 26 for  255 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions.  Eli was 13 of 24 for 161 yards, 2 TDs and 1 interception.  Not a bad night for the Mannings, but different story for the Giants defense which was down 24-0 at half.

This was round 2 as round 1 ended with a Colts 26-21 victory at the Meadowlands 4 years ago during the Colts Super Bowl year.  A year later Eli took the Giants past the undefeated New England Patriots for the Super Bowl.

Eli will need to pull something out of a hat if he is to earn some bragging rights at the Manning house for Thanksgiving dinners!

CC. Sabathia releases the monkey and gets 20th win

CC Sabathia finally got that monkey off his back, giving up only 3 runs in 7 innings and striking out 4.  The New York Yankees responded with 11 runs to rout the Baltimore Orioles 11-3 Saturday night in Baltimore.

Just about the only feat, Sabathia has yet to accomplish over 10 seasons, he now has his 20th and currently leads the majors in victories.  The big Cy Young Award winner has a World championship and many All-Star selections to go with his 20 win season.

I’m sure Yankee fans will expect the same results come October.  Who knows, he may be in line for MVP.

Kurt Busch caught by NASCAR with extra set of tires

It seems the Kurt Busch racing team forgot to turn in an extra set of tires giving them 7 sets which is 1 set over the 6 set policy for practice and qualifying.

His penalty?  His No 2 Dodge was held up on pit road by a NASCAR official for 15 minutes while the other cars raced by.  Despite his wrongdoing, he will be well-received in the Chase at the Sprint Cup championship opener at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

I’m sure he will make sure he has the required 8 sets for Sunday’s race.

Reggie Bush gives back the 2005 Heisman

Reggie Bush wanted to end the controversy and decided to relinquish the 2005 Heisman Trophy….like he had a choice?

Rather than expose some bad history about his family accepting gifts and money from sports agents during his years at USC, I think his motive was to move on and play football.

After all, O.J. Simpson was a Heisman Trophy winner and we all know what he did!

So, does Vince Young get the award?…Texas coach Mack Brown thinks so.

Randy Moss voices displeasure with contract

Randy Moss would like a new piece of the action, similar to the same action that Tom Brady received with his extension.  I don’t believe the numbers will be the same however.

After the New England Patriots beat the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday 38-24, Moss took the time to gripe about his contract during the press conference.

One wonders if he would have talked about it had the Patriots lost.  After all, he’s only making 6.4 mil this season, but since he is on the receiving end of Brady’s passes, maybe he feels justified in receiving the same consideration for compensation, or maybe he’s just looking for at the very least, a contract discussion.

Will Allen Iverson play in China?

While there are no takers in the NBA, Allen Iverson may consider playing in  China.  Word is that there is interest between Iverson and a team in China.

Why no interest from the NBA?  Probably due to the 35 year old Iverson’s knee problems and clashes with his coaches.  He may be done.
